1 - 10 days to create visual and sonic experiences

Discover the Diginight edition of ESD Paris 2022, an event organized by students from the ESD campus over a period of 10 days, held within the school premises.

The project brought together over 300 students who organized an immersive evening on the themes “A round” and “Rethink.” With the aim to entertain and ignite curiosity, the talented students curated a mesmerizing visual experience within the school space. By skillfully combining graphic elements, dynamic visual effects, and innovative lighting techniques.

The students collaborated in groups of eight to design and execute innovative video mapping projects. They received assistance from an expert who explained the techniques for getting started with video mapping. One of the students mentioned discovering video mapping during this workshop and added that the mapping tools were relatively easy to use. The students also learned to synchronize visual animations with immersive sound compositions.

They were able to utilize building facades, artistic structures, and environmental elements as projection canvases to bring their creations to life. Multidisciplinary teams were formed, bringing together talents in design, animation, programming, and sound. This collaborative approach allowed for exploring new perspectives video mapping experiences.

2 - Lille - Opening night in march 2019

One of the best video mapping was specially created for the Fête de l’anim’ by 50 students from top European animation schools, accompanied by professionals. Moroever, during this 4-day workshop, the students were supervised by Tamás Zádor, the creator of the Samy BARRAS collective. The workshop took place as part of the Video Mapping Festival 2019.

Additionally, this breathtaking production marked the opening night of the video mapping festival. The students used the facades of the Opera de Lille as projection screens to create an immersive visual experience. Those effects transformed the Opera into a living spectacle. From the universe of Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and Stranger Things to historical references and even comical stories. This memorable opening night captivated the audience, in an artistic atmosphere blending art, music, and technology.

3 - The centre d'art moderne of Tétouan

The video mapping workshop held at the Centre d’art moderne de Tétouan, organized by the French Institute of Morocco, was an enriching and creative experience. Furthermore, there were four teams of three students who had the opportunity to explore video mapping techniques under the guidance of Mikael DAOUDI, Jules HUVIG, and Stéphanie LÉONARD.

During this workshop, the participants experimented with indoor projections in the atrium and on the facade of the art center, transforming the architecture into moving artistic canvases. By utilizing their creativity and expertise, the students brought the walls, sculptures to life. They created impressive video mappings with visually stunning compositions and added an artistic dimension to the environment.

4 - Workshop inter-school from Roubaix

In Roubaix, students from three local schools, Esaat, Pôle IIID and ARTFX, collaborated on a workshop called “Reflet” (Reflection).

Additionally, the three schools welcomed around thirty students to create the best possible video mapping project. Their main objective was to fulfill the request of Rencontres Audiovisuelles of Lille for the Video Mapping Festival 2023. During the workshop, the students worked in teams of four people for five days, where they focused on creating two animations on the marine theme.

This project was projected onto the facades of the Musée de La Piscine and the Saint-Martin Church, two well-known landmarks. The workshop was supervised by Suzie-Lou Chetcuti and Jules Huvig from the company Loom Prod.

5 - Fête des lumières in Sèvres 2017

In 2017, during the Festival of Lights in Sèvres, the city enlisted the help of three graphic motion design students from the GOBELINS school to animate the facade of the City Hall. The theme was the adventures of Jules Verne. The students employed the technique of mapping, with the assistance of Marie-Jeanne Gauthé. She is an experienced specialist who had previously worked on video mapping projects in France during the Festival of Lights in 2016. Adding the sound design for the project was done by Nadège Feyrit, who also contributes to GOBELINS.

This project was particularly incredible. The animations created by the students seamlessly integrated with the architecture of the City Hall. The students explained how mapping is different from a simple screen and the steps involved in its realization. Through the projection of the videos, the building seemed to come alive and transformed telling multiple stories.

6 - Pictorus full show

Students enrolled in the Digital Media & Design program at the University of Connecticut undertook an impressive projection mapping project for their final year project. In collaboration with ATD Audio Visual, they projected their content onto the facade of the Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford. The Bushnell is a well-known gathering place for arts, education, and community activities in the Hartford region.

The walls, columns, and pediment of the Bushnell courtyard served as the canvas for the dynamic and colorful graphics and animations created by the UConn students.

Under the guidance of Ryan Glista led the Bushnell project, while Or Israel supervised a team of audiovisual technicians. These students transformed the facade of the Bushnell Performing Arts Center into an immersive visual experience

7 - Train

This immersive video named “Train” was created by students from Universal University in Russia. It is a captivating experience that uses mapping to transform the exterior of a train into an animated landscape. The students projected images and animations onto the walls, creating an immersive visual experience for the passengers.

Thanks to this innovative approach, the students were able to recreate diverse landscapes, ranging from natural panoramas to fantastical environments. The visual effects allowed the passengers to feel transported into another world.
